ITIL®

About ITIL®

The term ITIL® stands for IT Infrastructure Library. It has been developed by the Cabinet Office (formerly known as the Office of Government Commerce), UK. ITIL® is a set of comprehensive and tier-related codes of practice. In the IT community, such code of good practices is considered critical in order to achieve efficient support and delivery high quality, cost effective IT services. The Cabinet Office maintains the library and releases all updates related to ITIL®.

There are 4 levels of certifications on ITIL®. These certifications are offered by Cabinet Office’s official accreditor, the APMG Group:

Foundation Level

The Foundation Level focuses on the concepts, terminology and processes of ITIL®. At the end of the training, the delegates would have comprehended the ITIL® concepts and would be ready to take up a 1-hour objective type examination. Delegates must get a minimum of 26 out of 40 answers correct or secure 65% to pass the exam that will lead to Certification in ITIL® Foundation. Successful delegates will be awarded 2 credits. This certification is a pre-requisite to advance candidates to the intermediate levels.

Intermediate Level

There are two streams in the Intermediate levels – Service Life Cycle and Capabilities.
Service Life Cycle has 5 modules and Capabilities has 4 modules as mentioned below:

Service Life Cycle (SLC)
• Service Strategy
• Service Design
• Service Transition
• Service Operation
• Continual Service Improvement

Capabilities
• Operational Support and Analysis (OSA)
• Service Offerings and Agreements
• Release, Control and Validation
• Planning, Protection and Optimization (PPO)

ITIL® Expert Level

A professional needs to pass the ‘Managing Across Life Cycle’ (MALC) module to become an ITIL® Expert. MALC can only be taken once the delegates accumulates 17 credits. These credits can be accumulated by either fully completing SLC or Capabilities or a combination of SLC and Capabilities.
